Bessie’s Legacy
A medical fund in honor of the dog who started it all.
BESSIE came to us in February of 2020 as a fospice rescue. She was a scrawny 13-year-old in kidney failure. When we picked her up from the ICU, the vet gave her 3-6 months to live.
Against all odds, she spent the next 4 years with us. She was a force to be reckoned with and we gladly shaped our lives according to her every whim. She needed subcutaneous fluids administered daily and had such severe separation anxiety we almost never left her alone. Every moment spent with her was a privilege.
We said goodbye to Bessie on Valentine’s Day 2024. Her fiery spirit burned bright until the last moment even as her body succumbed to the ravages of time. Her life and love gave rise to Rain or Shine Rescue, and in her honor we launched BESSIE’S LEGACY, a medical fund that serves to strengthen our commitment to rescuing and rehabilitating senior and medically-needy dogs and cats.
From emergency surgeries and ongoing medications to preventative treatments and prescription diets, donations to BESSIE’S LEGACY directly support the health of our neediest rescue animals, ensuring they get to live healthy, comfortable, and joyful lives.
